But of course it is spring as there are baby goats. Only two but these two , a doe and buck are more vigorous then most of those in the last 33 years. Must be the magic Shasta county water? More likely Willa's good milk and care!
And then the egg production. It hasn't waned since last autumn. Water or ???
And then there was the magic ( carefully disguised as heavy equipment skill) by Seth the excavation guy. Who has put flooding on this farm to a redirected stand still!
And if that wasn't enough my lovely Aunt with her 90th birthday just days prior to my 70th.
Take a close look at this guy or gal. It is a Red Tailed Hawk. Who several days after this photo tried to help itself to a chicken. No camera in moment of intense will sorry. But two Pyrenees to the right, a very possessive and irritated rooster to his / her left and a hell bent crazy woman screaming in his/her face "let that hen go"! And after several seconds, which seemed like hours, the bird released its prey. With a look of " I don't care about the dogs or the Roo but that lady is bat poop crazy let me out of here!!!
Left to right front to back catnip, chives , tomato, tomato second row , spinach , broccoli and last row front sweet red onions.
The almond tree blossomed into perfection!
You all must know by now the only reason I go to my chiropractor is for the inspiration.
Lastly a wee hard to see but we have morphed from St. Patrick's Day into a Spring theme on the gate.

Aw, baby goat! Definitely spring! Amazing that you got eggs all winter long. Good chickens! Glad the chicken hawk wasn't successful. Sometimes it pays to be crazy, LOL. Did you decide anything about planting the new water escape ditch?
What a beautiful place. I bet those baby lambs are so much fun to watch. Have a family or hawks that live in my hood. Pretty but they love to rob the nest of other birds.
Oh, how good that you could get some heavy equipment work done on your property to reduce the flooding potential. Phew . . . must be a relief.
I had to laugh at your description of the attempted hawk attack. You go, girl! You were obviously the back-up the pups and rooster needed to save that hen.
Methinks you probably give your chiropractor a bit of inspiration each visit you make, too.

The LaMancha goat kids are a tad over a week old and are spending the days when it isn’t raining having kid races in the pasture. When it is raining they are doing what all kids do. Driving Miss Willa their Mama crazy.
Leigh not only did I get eggs all winter but nicely sized too! Except for Miss Flames but she began laying late December sweet pullet eggs.
The drainage ditches won’t be planted. The projects second phase will come in May I hope. Seth will come and gather up all he dug out and trolley it over behind the buck barn. Giving me a nice fill dirt for building up the big barns floor a bit of insurance against any further flooding. Also good for landscaping in the back yard and garden.
He didn’t do it the first go round as it was still so wet and muddy he wanted to wait a bit. The anticipation is when that is done the edges will be feathered out and by summers end native grasses will grow and give a bit of ground cover to prevent erosion and the bonus of looking as if they have always been there. 😊
There is a LOT going on! But it looks to be all good - with the exception of the hawk. I imagine he/she is still talking about the crazy woman!

You bet he/she is. And just for good measure I texted the hawk your blog address in case he wanted to relocated to the right coast and wanted to avoid another somewhat opinionated and determined muddle(spelling appropriate) aged woman.

There must be something in the air. Yesterday my twice a month group of handwork ladies met and it was as if all six of us present were inebriated. (Not so.) None of us could hear correctly what the other one was saying (sort of like the old "telephone game") and words coming out of our mouths were twisted and garbled and we couldn't remember what each of us had said 5 minute prior. If it was old age setting in, we were all six going down together! (Hope it's not me spreading the germ.) :o\
The baby goats are adorable. It looks like your going to have agood garden. Glad you got rid of the hawk. I was at my mom's a few years ago, and when I came out of her house to go home this hawk swooped down and grabbed a bird off the ground right in front of me. I couldn't believe it.I got a broom from my mom's and proceeded to hit it to make it let go. It wouldn't and off it went. The broom didn't faze it. The fence looks good. What rich soil you have there. glad you got the rain water under control. Take Care xo

Our two legged kids were 8 and 11 years before we could make the leap to the country and embrace all there is. But even when we lived on a 1/4 acre lot on the edge of town we lived a self sufficient life style.
I highly recommend it to families. It exposes children to so many character building experiences.
Sorry I'm not responding earlier. The egg production looks good! I suppose the hawk is doing what hawks do, but I'm glad you put on a good defense for the chickens.
